Iran participated in the IOCINDIO side event held during the Second International Indian Ocean Science Conference (IIOSC) on 2 December 2025 in Hyderabad, India. The Iranian delegation, joining online, presented the country’s recent scientific achievements and regional initiatives.

Dr. Ali Mahdinia, Acting President of the National Institute of Oceanography and Atmospheric Science (INIOAS), outlined the activities of the Regional Educational and Research Center for West Asia (RCOWA), emphasizing its role in capacity-building, ocean literacy, and participation in Indian Ocean tsunami exercises. He also stressed the importance of preparedness in the Makran region and highlighted INIOAS’s efforts in early-warning systems and community training.

Dr. Maryam Ghaemi, INIOAS faculty member and Vice-Chair of IOCINDIO, delivered a keynote presentation on scientific progress in coastal and offshore monitoring, data production, and regional collaboration. She emphasized the need for enhanced data sharing, joint research cruises, and stronger links between science and policy.

Iran’s active participation strengthened its scientific presence within IOCINDIO and supported the expansion of regional and international cooperation in the Indian Ocean.
