Marine Biology Laboratory

Research on marine biodiversity, the health of marine ecosystems, environmental monitoring, and the advancement of biological knowledge of Iran's marine environments.

The laboratory conducts its assigned educational and research activities through a team of skilled, specialized, and motivated experts. Using modern methods, it investigates ecosystem health, regional biodiversity, accurate species identification, algal blooms, and biotechnological studies aimed at utilizing the potential economic and scientific value of marine species. Research conducted by the laboratory has contributed to reports of new species from the waters of the Persian Gulf and Gulf of Oman, as well as from freshwater environments in Iran.

Laboratory Overview

Marine Biodiversity and Ecosystems

Marine organisms exhibit different morphological, biological, ecological, and physiological characteristics in response to the physical and chemical properties of their environment. The marine environment is continuously changing, both naturally and as a result of human activities, and these changes directly or indirectly affect marine organisms. Given the diversity of marine ecosystems and the exceptionally rich biodiversity and genetic resources of marine organisms, the Marine Biology Laboratory studies aquatic organisms and the marine environment.
