Iranian National Institute for Oceanography and Atmospheric Science
The Iranian National Institute for Oceanography and Atmospheric Science serves as the specialized institution for marine and atmospheric studies in the country, operating with the aim of advancing knowledge, technology, monitoring, and oceanographic and atmospheric research.

Over Three Decades of Scientific and Marine Activity
The activities of this institution began in 1992 with the establishment of the "National Center for Oceanography" and subsequently, through the development of research infrastructure, laboratories, and marine facilities, it has become one of the most important specialized institutions in marine and atmospheric sciences in the country.
Today, the Iranian National Institute for Oceanography and Atmospheric Science operates at national and regional levels in the fields of marine, oceanographic, and atmospheric studies, utilizing research centers, specialized institutes, coastal stations, laboratory equipment, and faculty members.
Development and Advancement Process
The National Center for Oceanography was established in 1992 upon the proposal of the National Oceanography Committee of the Iranian National Commission for UNESCO at the then Ministry of Culture and Higher Education. Subsequently, through the equipping of specialized laboratories and the establishment of research stations in Chabahar, Bushehr, and Nowshahr, its scientific and marine activities were expanded.
In March 2010, the National Center for Oceanography was upgraded to the "National Institute for Oceanography" and its scientific and executive structure was expanded through the establishment of research centers and specialized institutes, including the National Center for Marine and Oceanographic Data and the National Center for Marine Hazards Prediction and Warning.
Considering the profound connection between atmospheric and marine systems and the necessity for their integrated study, the National Institute for Oceanography was upgraded to the "Iranian National Institute for Oceanography and Atmospheric Science" in 2013. This development was accompanied by the expansion of laboratory equipment, coastal stations, and specialized faculty members.
