Dr. Ali Mehdi-Nia, President of the Iranian National Institute for Oceanography and Atmospheric Science (INIOAS) and Chair of Iran’s mirror committee for ISO/TC 147 (Water Quality), was named National Outstanding Technical Committee Chair. Neda Sheijouni Fumani, the committee’s secretary, received the award for National Outstanding Committee Secretary.

The awards were presented at Iran’s World Standards Day ceremony on October 13, 2026, following an assessment of committee performance during 2025–2026. The recognition came from among approximately 200 active national mirror committees, with only seven selected for honors.

During 2025, Iran’s Water Quality Mirror Committee contributed to the development of 105 international standards and submitted 264 technical and editorial comments on draft standards. Its achievements also included contributions to 12 national standards, participation in ISO working groups, leadership of a new working group on silica, and a proposal for a new international standard with Iran participating in project leadership.

ISO/TC 147 develops international standards for water quality assessment, including sampling and the measurement and reporting of physical, chemical, radiological, microbiological, biological and ecological characteristics of water. These standards support consistent monitoring methods and comparable results, helping strengthen water resource management and protection of aquatic environments.

The recognition highlights INIOAS’s continuing role in connecting Iran’s scientific expertise with national and international standardization efforts.
