The head of the National Research Institute of Oceanography and Atmospheric Sciences attended the 27th meeting of the World Program for the Exchange of Oceanographic Information and Data, which was held from March 29, 1401 to April 4, 1402, with the presence of 112 representatives from member countries in Paris, at the UNESCO headquarters, and explained the views of the Islamic Republic of Iran on issues related to marine and oceanic data.

According to the public relations report of the National Research Institute of Oceanography and Atmospheric Sciences, in this meeting, while emphasizing the importance of monitoring oceanic data, the increasing coefficient of air warming and its climatic effects on the endangerment of biological species through the limitation of the vital zones of organisms and the lack of global responsibility of governments in the direction of protecting global biological resources were discussed and investigated.

The global approach to data, especially the risks caused by the weakness or lack of accurate information and data, the integrated management of oceanic information, the incompatibility of oceanic and atmospheric data, the insularity of countries and how to collect data, were raised as important areas in this meeting.  Also, along with the need to pay attention to social and cultural sensitivities, the territorial needs of different nations, the formulation of the ocean responsibility system was emphasized.

Referring to this meeting, Dr. Tawakli, head of the National Research Institute of Oceanography and Atmospheric Sciences, said: Considering the territorial position of the Islamic Republic of Iran in accessing open waters, especially the Indian Ocean, which is considered as the future ocean and requires a more active role in international arenas, special attention to territorial capacities and sensitivities is of particular importance.
