The message of the head of the research institute on the occasion of World Ocean Day
The sea is a divine gift that the beginning and continuation of plant and animal life and the continuation of the systematic balance of the life cycle are due to it. Beautiful and eye-catching landscapes, abundant living and non-living resources, smooth and cheap transportation, and providing security and defense of the land, are only a part of the benefits and advantages of the sea for the inhabitants of the earth. Global approaches show the attention of many countries to the sea as a huge capacity for development and authority.
June 8 (June 18), which has been named World Ocean Day, is a symbolic day to increase awareness and introduce the general measures and policies of land management based on the development and progress of marine areas and industries.
Careful, scientific and conscious attention to issues such as the introduction of pollutants such as oil pollution, plastics, industrial and urban sewage into the sea, overfishing, unsustainable industrial development, extreme changes in sea level especially in the Caspian Sea, the development of low oxygen layer in the southern seas, acidification of the seas, reduction of biodiversity, entry of invasive species through the balance water of ships, and similar issues are of great importance. Also, knowing marine resources and benefits and their sustainable exploitation, such as supplying fresh water needed by coastal cities, identifying marine energy sources, including renewable and non-renewable sources, fishing in far and near waters, coastal-marine aquaculture and fish farming in cages, marine tourism, transportation and marine-ocean industries is another aspect that emphasizes the increasing importance of the sea and ocean as the key to the country's economic leap.
Based on this; It is very important to pay attention to this point that the basis of knowledge of the issues raised is attention to the fields of oceanic-atmospheric science and engineering and the development and provision of technologies required for oceanic-atmosphere monitoring and observations, which requires everyone's efforts to support the country's prestigious scientific centers in this field, which will lead to the maximum utilization of the existing capabilities of the marine sector and the creation of new capacities at the national level.
