Dr. Morteza Tavakoli's visit to Pana news agency
The head of the National Research Institute of Oceanography and Atmospheric Sciences raised in a conversation with Pana;
The need to pay attention to "ocean literacy" and "seafaring skills" in textbooks

The 13th government pays attention to the category of basic culture and promotion of science during student life/ Students' help in the marine robotics debate is welcomed/ The Oceanographic Research Institute is ready to set up scientific tours for students in the Persian Gulf explorer.
Tehran (Pana news agency) - Dr. Morteza Tavakoli, stating that students are considered as a social capital, believes that mobility and energy, students' thoughts, innovations and creativity are among the country's assets and can be one of the basic wealth of the country in the direction of moving towards useful science.
More than 70% of the earth's surface is covered by salt water, the total volume of the oceans is about 1 billion 300 million cubic kilometers, and there are about 230 thousand known animal species in the oceans. Also, according to the statistics, more than 600 million people, about 10% of the world's population, live in coastal areas with a height of less than 10 meters, and nearly 2.4 billion people live within 100 kilometers of the coast, and their livelihood resources are provided from the coast. 17% of the world's protein comes from fish and more than eight million tons of plastic waste enter the seas every year. Due to the great importance of seas and oceans and since the foundation of the development of marine and oceanic sciences and techniques is the familiarity of the general public, especially students, with this place, therefore Pana news agency has hosted Morteza Tavakoli, a member of the academic staff of Tarbiat Modares University and the head of the National Research Institute of Oceanography and Atmospheric Sciences. In this meeting, in addition to explaining the research institute's plans to improve the status of this research institute and measures to identify and provide scientific assistance to the coasts and oceans, he spoke about the latest measures of this research institute to improve students' literacy about the oceans.
Whatever is done for students is guaranteed for decades to come
Morteza Tavakoli, the head of the National Research Institute of Oceanography and Atmospheric Sciences, said about the importance of students' position to get to know the water areas of the country: "A lot of measures have been taken in the field of students. I believe that whatever is done for the students is an investment in the basic infrastructure and the guarantee of the future decades, and to influence the thinking of the students in this area, there should be a comprehensive action plan to involve the students in learning skills, because most of the things we learn during our life are related to our school days and education.
The 13th government's attention to the category of basic culture and promotion of science during the student period
The head of the National Research Institute of Oceanography and Atmospheric Sciences pointed out the 13th government's attention on basic culture and promotion of science during the student period and said: "Despite the people's government and the measures that have been taken, this idea that work should be done on basic culture and promotion of science has taken root and has progressed very well." The nature of our work is oceanography, and the oceanography research institute is one of the unique research institutes in the country, which has four centers in Nowshahr, Bandar Abbas, Chabahar and Bushehr. The center of Nowshahr is located next to the Caspian Sea and three centers are located next to the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman.
Preparing to set up scientific tours for students in the Persian Gulf explorer
Referring to the activity of the Persian Gulf probe, he said: "We have the only ocean research ship in the country that operates under the name of the Persian Gulf probe. In this probe, there are four active laboratories of geology, physics, chemistry and biology. This ship is a symbol of the country's scientific authority. There is a readiness to host elite and interested students on this ship so that they can get to know the marine capabilities in the form of a scientific tour.
Tavakli also said about the activities of the research institute in the field of oceanic literacy: "In the field of education, the first thing that the institute considered was activity in the field of oceanic literacy. In this regard, two basic areas of rights and duties have been determined. The student has the right to be informed and improve his knowledge. At the same time, the duty of the student is also clear in the family and society. The first thing that was done in this department was holding the "Ocean Literacy" basic course at the level of teachers and principals, which was held in 1400. Also, the "Winter School of Ocean Sciences" and "Ocean Literacy and Social Responsibility" courses were held in Tehran last year and this year.
The head of the National Research Institute of Oceanography and Atmospheric Sciences noted: "We believe that if we want to do well in the environmental field, especially in the marine, coastal and offshore fields, we must activate students because they are the generation that affects the family and society. On the other hand, one of the neglected capacities in the field of education is the discussion of ocean literacy and related biological skills.
The need to include "ocean literacy" and "seafaring skills" in textbooks
He also named the use of the capacity of the aquaculture school, oceanography and hydrology school in the coastal provinces as one of the programs of the National Oceanographic Research Institute and said: "In this regard, we requested that ocean literacy and navigation skills be included in the textbooks."
Tavakli continued: "Also, in the resolution that was held in the recent meeting in Paris, the issue of protecting students and children against climate change was raised. The view of this resolution is to make students more adaptable to climate change and less vulnerable, and finally to have more knowledge in this field for students."
Welcoming students' help in discussing marine robotics
He went on to emphasize that the actions in the field of students are very wide and said: "One of the areas that we can host in the field of students in the research institute is the discussion of marine robotics, and we welcome the help of elite students in this department. In addition, in the field of intelligence, we will use the capacity of students to achieve the goals of the research institute."
Stating that the use of students' capacity is considered as an actual social capital now and potentially for the future, Tavakli said: "The best capital is the capital of students in the country that we can count on. The thoughts of students, their innovations and creativity are among the assets of the country and can be one of the basic wealth of the country in the direction of moving towards useful science. Therefore, whatever idea the students have, we are ready to take it forward and prototype it and provide them with the capacity to turn it from idea to technology and wealth."
Conducting student campaigns to depict the beauty of the sea
The head of the National Research Institute of Oceanography and Atmospheric Sciences emphasized that the presence of students in the centers of the research institute will develop their sense of belonging to the land, and said: "We are ready to organize a campaign so that the students can depict the beauty of the sea and present their content in the field of biological experience that they have in this field. Also, we are fully prepared to have a comprehensive program and bring the student community to work to promote their awareness and knowledge in the field of oceanography in the society."
While congratulating the beginning of the new academic year to the respected students, teachers, professors and managers of the education, training and higher education department, Tavakoli expressed attention to religious and Islamic teachings in the field of reforming the consumption pattern, desirable cultural behaviors, and also skill training along with knowledge enhancement, among the necessities of progress and excellence.
