Holding the third international tsunami exercise in the Makran coast
The third international tsunami exercise will be held on the coast of Makran (Chabahar and Jask) on November 3, 1402.
According to the research institute's public relations report, Dr. Ali Khosh Khalq, head of the National Center for Forecasting and Warning of Marine Hazards, said: This exercise, which is held simultaneously and with the presence of countries along the Indian Ocean, is a practical exercise to deal with the danger of tsunami, in which the scenario of an earthquake in the Makran fault, which has the potential to create tsunami waves and threaten Makran's coast, is practiced.
Khosh Khalq, the official name of this biennial international exerciselOWave23He stated that increasing preparedness to deal with tsunami and strengthening and evaluating the tsunami warning chain inside the country, raising the level of international cooperation between the countries bordering the Indian Ocean, as well as raising the awareness and readiness of people and government institutions to deal with the negative effects of tsunami, were considered as the most important goals of holding this exercise.
He also mentioned the presence of J.A. in the previous tsunami maneuvers (lOWave16) which in 1395 and (lOWave18) which in 2017 with the cooperation of the country's crisis management organization and crisis management centers of Sistan and Baluchistan and Hormozgan provinces and other responsible organizations including governorates, Red Crescent, emergency, municipality and police force It was held in Chabahar and Jask, he added: Unfortunately, in 2019, due to the corona situation, it was not possible to participate in this exercise operationally, but it was decided this year. Iran is also expected to participate in this exercise with a hypothetical scenario in which an earthquake with a magnitude of 9 on the Richter scale occurs at 09:30 on November 3, 1402 in the area of the Makran fault near the southern coast of Iran and is capable of causing flooding by tsunami waves.
It should be noted that this exercise is held with the efforts and participation of the National Research Institute of Oceanography and Atmospheric Sciences, the country's crisis management organization, the governor's office, the Red Crescent Society, the municipality, the emergency department, the fire department, and other relief organizations of Chabahar and Jask.
