The beginning of the field operations of the largest oceanographic monitoring of Makran coast
The largest oceanographic monitoring of the coast of Makran will be carried out from 22 November 1402 for at least one month.
According to the public relations report of the National Research Institute of Oceanography and Atmospheric Sciences, Dr. Morteza Tavakoli, head of the research institute, said: In this field operation, 212 The points including 156 points in the sea and 56 points in the land are studied in the area of Goatar Bay to Jask Port. Sampling of different environments, including water, soil, sediment, urban and industrial effluents, and aquatic life, is done along the Makran coast.
Regarding the details of this monitoring program, Tavakli stated: Considering the size of the area, the sampling operation will be carried out with the presence of 10 researchers from the research institute and in the form of two sampling teams from the Chabahar and Hormozgan oceanographic research and technology stations simultaneously from Gowater and Jask ports, and data collection and study of the conditions governing Makran coasts in the fields of marine physics and chemistry, marine pollution, marine biology, marine geology, and satellite remote sensing will be performed. ,According to the goals pursued in this program, the sampling periods will be different in different environments.
He added: In this field operation, the physical and chemical data of water, including temperature, salinity, dissolved oxygen concentration, were recordedpH And water turbidity is done on site by portable devices located on the float. In addition to the mentioned parameters, values BOD5، COD, chlorophyll a, chlorine, carbonate, bicarbonate, TDS, fluorine, BTEX And heavy metals will also be measured in water samples after being transferred to the laboratories of the research institute. In the sediment samples of heavy metals, hydrocarbon compounds and the separation and identification of microplastics will be done. In soil samples, in addition to heavy metals and hydrocarbon compounds, organochlorine toxins will be measured. Microbial pollution in municipal wastewater as well as the concentration of phenol, fat and oil, detergent, heavy metals, toxins and PAHs Industrial waste samples will be analyzed.
He has the purpose of holding this leg Informing planners and decision makers about the condition of Makran beaches and obtaining basic and comprehensive information about the hydrochemistry of coastal areas, Identification of geological anomalies and pollutions of human origin in different environments investigated based on natural background values and environmental indicators.
The coasts of Makran have many unknowns for the scientific and decision-making community of the country. Considering the importance of the Oman Sea and Makran coasts as a bridge between the open seas and the Persian Gulf, as well as the existence of several important and active ports that have extensive exchanges with neighboring and sometimes trans-regional countries, the need to pay attention to various geological, physical, chemical and biological aspects of its coasts is of special importance and status. On the other hand, considering the ever-increasing population growth, the economic and industrial growth of Iran and the countries of the region, and the countless potentials of beaches in the development of the country, and the emphasis of the supreme leader of the revolution on the development of Makran beaches and the use of its huge capacities, it is inevitable to create a scientifically documented program to examine the interaction between beaches and humans and ways to protect beaches from destruction and non-scientific use. The first step in such a program will certainly be environmental knowledge of the Makran beaches.
The National Research Institute of Oceanography and Atmospheric Sciences, in line with its organizational duties, has developed advanced measurement and sampling equipment, expert and experienced staff in various fields of oceanography, and specialized laboratories to study Makran's coasts in fields related to oceanography. This research includes many scientific fields, including pollution, biology and marine and land geology, and various experts from the relevant fields will be present.
