Introducing five ongoing research projects in the field of marine and atmospheric sciences
Five research projects in the field of marine, oceanic and atmospheric sciences being implemented in the National Research Institute of Oceanography and Atmospheric Sciences are introduced in Research and Technology Week 1402.
According to the research institute's public relations report, the titles of the approved research projects that started at the beginning of this year and are currently being carried out are as follows:
1- Evaluation and comparison of the accuracy of depth data extracted from a single satellite image with high spatial resolution.WORLDVIEW-2(with multi-temporal images with medium spatial resolution)SENTINEL-2) andLANDSAT-8)) using traditional methods and machine learning, project manager: Dr. Kivan Kabiri, member of the academic staff and director of research affairs and scientific collaborations,
2- Evaluation of the effects of atmospheric parameters on hyperspectral measurements of water level in coastal areas, project manager: Dr. Masoud Moradi, member of the academic staff and head of the Research Institute of Atmospheric Sciences.
3- Investigating the level of some toxic pollutants from hookah wastewater and bioaccumulation in single oyster snails in the intertidal area of the Persian Gulf in Bushehr province, project manager: Dr. Maryam Qaemi, member of the academic staff and head of the Persian Gulf Oceanography Center (Bushehr).
4- Investigating the distribution and abundance of microplastics in the water and sediments of Mangrove Goater and Chabahar Bay, project manager: Dr. Kamaluddin Ker, member of the academic staff and head of the Chabahar Oceanography Center.
5- Investigating the composition distribution of main elements in suspended particles in the Persian Gulf: the results of research patrols, PGE1901,PGE1902,PGE2101 Project manager: Dr. Hamid Ershadi Far, a member of the scientific staff of the research institute.
Regarding his plan, Dr. Kabiri said: The depth data of shallow areas are valuable and necessary data for studying the ecosystems of these areas using satellite images. Usually, these data are collected using direct methods of field measurements (hydrography or hydrography), but this method is very expensive and cannot always be done everywhere. The use of satellite images with high spatial resolution is an alternative and suitable solution for this purpose, which can usually provide results with almost acceptable accuracy. However, these images are also expensive and access to them is limited.
Regarding the proposed solution in this research, he said: The solution that is considered in this research is the use of free images with average multi-temporal spatial resolution. In this regard, Kish Island has been selected as the study area, and field observations will be made around it and will be compared with the results obtained from the mentioned images. Also, in this research, machine learning methods will be used along with traditional methods, and finally, by comparing all possible modes, the optimal method(s) will be proposed. The main goal of this research is to compare the values extracted from a single satellite image WORLDVIEW-2 with similar values extracted from combining multi-time images LANDSAT-8 و SENTINEL-2 As an alternative method and evaluating the accuracy obtained from both methods.
Dr. Moradi stated "providing a model to control the quality of cloud spectral measurements of water level affected by precipitation, humidity and cloud cover" and "developing a numerical model for the effect of precipitation, humidity and cloud cover for modeling and validation of cloud spectral measurements of water level in coastal areas" as important goals of the project.
Dr. Qaemi also stated that the purpose of his project is to determine the concentration of toxic pollutants including compounds PAHsو BTEX , heavy metals in faeces obtained from hookah (fruity and traditional), Determining the bioaccumulation of some toxic pollutants obtained from hookah waste in single oyster snails in the area between the islands and fashion Siphonaria carb , bioaccumulation rate 1Target pollutants BTEX PCBs PAHs)heavy metals( In sub-acute exposure (28 days) to hookah faeces (fruity and traditional(In the single shell snail of the intertidal zone )Siphonaria carb), bioaccumulation rate 2Target pollutants) PAHs ، PCBs ، BTEXheavy metals, nitrosamines, pesticides, and aromatic amines) in chronic exposure (42 days) to hookah waste (fruit and traditional) in single oyster snails in the intertidal area )Siphonaria carb ), determining the level of bioaccumulation of pollutantsPAHs ، BTEX and heavy metals) in chronic exposure (90 days) to hookah waste (fruit and traditional) In the single shell snail of the intertidal zone )Siphonaria car ))
Dr. Kerr alsoEvaluation of the level of contamination of Chabahar mangroves and Goater Bay with microplastics as The objectives of your research enumerated
In the following, Dr. Ershadi Far regarding the researchInvestigating the distribution and composition of the main elements in suspended particles in the Persian Gulf: survey resultsResearchPGE1901, PGE1902, PGE2101 » Examining the temporal-spatial changes in the amount of suspended particles and their chemical composition under the influence of environmental factors is one of the most important goals of the project.
