The second scientific-specialist meeting "Description of activities carried out and to come in Antarctica" was held on Tuesday 15 March 1402 at the location of the National Research Institute of Oceanography and Atmospheric Sciences with the aim of synergizing experiences and informing about the activities and programs carried out and being carried out by the National Antarctic Research Center and with the presence of university officials, researchers and professors.. ‏

According to the research institute's public relations report, at the beginning of this meeting Dr. Morteza Tavakoli, head of the institute While expressing his welcome, he pointed out the importance of study and research in the field of Antarctica and further appreciated the support of the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology in the field of Antarctic studies..

He described the field of ocean studies as broad and important and said: the ocean domain is an unknown and vital domain in such a way that our life depends on the life of the oceans; Therefore, the value of studying in this field is very important.

Dr. Tavakli stated that being in the extraterritorial borders is one of the aspirations of the country and stated: There are two approaches, why and how, to enter Antarctica, why studies in Antarctica are clear to us, because it is a geopolitical and important region for scientific studies; But how should we enter these studies, we undoubtedly need tools and equipment; Therefore, it is necessary to share these experiences by holding meetings.

Dr. Hossein Farjami, head of the National Antarctic Research Center In his speech, referring to the publication of an independent article by Iranian researchers in one of the most cited international journals, he said: In this article, we were able to design an algorithm to track and identify the polar low pressure system, so that this algorithm can be used for numerical models and to increase the accuracy of global forecasts. .He added: This article was implemented with the cooperation of Mr. Amin Fazl Kazemi, a doctoral student of the Institute of Geophysics, which can be said to be a step towards the development of Antarctic studies and national pride..

Farjami described the title of this study as low pressure activity in the surrounding seas of the Antarctic and added: polar low pressure is a type of atmospheric system in the polar regions, which has characteristics such as small size and a duration of 3 to 6 hours in the polar seas and causes violent waves on the sea surface, which are very dangerous for sailors and activists in this field..He considered the reason for the occurrence of polar low pressures to be the difference in the temperature of the air on the ice and the ocean surface and reminded: these currents will be a threat to safety in marine operations and activities in polar regions such as fishing, shipping and polar explorations; For this reason, necessary arrangements must be made to transfer researchers to the Antarctic region.

The head of the National Antarctic Research Center of the National Research Institute of Oceanography and Atmospheric Sciences emphasized that in this project we were able to prepare a data bank of polar low pressure currents, and noted: the main challenges of conducting these studies are their small size, short life span, and sudden formations. But its important achievement is the promotion of scientific knowledge and numerical models of this phenomenon and providing better and more accurate forecasts and warnings of the weather in this region..

Farjami, the index of low atmospheric pressures MCAO or the outbreak of cold polar air and reminded: the results obtained from this study showed that most of these systems are formed in the months of May, June and July and the maximum number of active systems is in June and the minimum number of these systems is in the months of December, January and February. He added: Therefore, according to the criteria of meso-scale storms, polar low pressure during the warm months from November to February is significantly less compared to the cold months of the year.

Engineer Mir Alireza Mehna, an Iranian researcher The resident of France, who has experienced traveling to Antarctica, spoke about Antarctica and the issues surrounding it, and emphasized on correcting specialized words. He added: We should pay attention to some words that are part of general literacy and try to advance the mission of promoting culture in the society.

Mehna, the media space  He described the chaos in the Antarctic region and, while emphasizing the need for media literacy and geographical literacy, he demanded more accuracy from the media regarding undocumented and unreliable news in the Antarctic region.

While emphasizing the creation of awareness in the country and public recognition, he said: Antarctica is the common world heritage of humanity and the Islamic Republic of Iran should have a contribution and international research activity there.

This Antarctic researcher said about the trip to Antarctica: information about clothing, food, logistics, physical and individual preparations, etc. is important in the trip to Antarctica, and the team should not only have general training but also a series of specialized training.

Dr. Behzad Laighi, research assistant of the country's meteorological organization Also, in this meeting, from the perspective of oceanography, Antarctica is one of the main influencing factors in sea currents and said: Antarctica plays a very important role in the discussion of climate change and energy distribution.

Regarding the importance of the presence of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Antarctica, he said: Antarctica is actually a show of power for  It is developed countries that are present there

Laighi stated: In order to take the country to high levels of decision-making, our presence in these international institutions should be more. ,

He mentioned some things about the Supreme Oceanographic Council of the country and further emphasized on holding the meetings of this council.

Dr. Masoud Sadri Nesab, head of the International Studies Center of the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology Also, in this meeting, while emphasizing on holding more regular meetings of the Supreme Council of Oceanography, he said: One of the fields that can bring us into Antarctic research is cooperation in 16 projects of Uruguay in this field.. that according to the process of accession of countries to the Antarctic Treaty in 1959, with the presence of 12 countries, this treaty was signed.

Referring to the formation of the National Antarctic Institute in Uruguay, he attributed the success of this institute to national cohesion and the formation of the National Antarctic Institute in this country and reminded: this institute is under the leadership of 6 Ministries of Defense, Foreign Affairs, Housing, Environment,  Prosperity and energy are managed.

Emphasizing that this institution is active after 44 years of joining the Antarctic Treaty, Sadri Nasab continued: Iran has not taken any serious action to join the Antarctic Treaty and taking steps in this field requires national effort.. He named the High Council of Oceanography as the guardian of the establishment of the Institute of Antarctic Studies in Iran and reminded: this council decided to establish the Institute of Antarctic Studies in Iran in its eighth meeting, and this is despite the fact that the meetings of this council are held late..

In the continuation of the meeting, Dr. Amozgar and Dr. Majidi Nia, university lecturers, while presenting their suggestions, raised issues regarding the importance and necessity of the presence of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Antarctica, as well as the role of the media in reflecting news in this area.

In the final part of this meeting, for the valuable efforts and activities of Dr. Vahid Chegini in establishing the National Antarctic Research Center at the National Institute of Oceanography and Atmospheric Sciences, as well as  Engineer Mir Alireza Mehna is an Iranian researcher living in France who has spent many years of his life exploring, studying and researching in the Antarctic area. Appreciation was done by presenting a plaque.

It should be noted that this meeting was held with the efforts of the National Antarctic Research Center of the National Institute of Oceanography and Atmospheric Sciences. Its scientific secretary was Dr. Hossein Farjami, the head of this center, and its executive secretary was Mr. Manouchehr Mohammadi.
