۸ I congratulate the people of the world, especially the dear Iranians, on June 19th, World Ocean Day.  Oceans cover more than two-thirds of the earth's surface, provide most of the earth's oxygen, absorb carbon dioxide, are the main source of food for the earth, and reduce the adverse effects of many man-made pollutants and reduce the effects of climate change on the planet. Oceans are also very important economically, fisheries and aquaculture, marine transportation, marine tourism, renewable energy, marine biotechnology, and the use of hydrocarbon resources and marine mines are important in the field of marine economy..

Therefore, protecting the oceans as an international and intergenerational heritage of humanity is necessary for the life of the whole earth. Today, with the increase of all types of marine pollution such as plastics and microplastics, oil and gas condensates, the increase of urban, industrial and agricultural waste water entering the marine and oceanic environments, the increase of heavy metals entering the seas and oceans, the reduction of aquatic resources due to excessive harvesting, the loss of sensitive and important ecosystems such as mangrove forests and coral reefs, the reduction of water oxygen, the acidification of the oceans, the melting The polar ice caps and changes in the cycle of thermohaline currents of the oceans have endangered life in these large blue areas.. According to the slogan of this year's World Day  As the ocean "awakens new depths", we must play our role in preserving this vital ecosystem by informing the society, organizations and related institutions..

Dr. Maryam Ghaemi, head of the Persian Gulf Oceanographic Center (Bushehr)

Deputy Chairman of the Central Indian Ocean Regional Commission (IOCINDIO) and a member of the scientific faculty of the research institute

World Oceans Day provides a platform to inspire action and promote sustainable practices to protect oceans by raising awareness of ocean conservation issues, encouraging global cooperation and advocating for positive change. Oceans are facing various threats such as plastic pollution, overfishing, acidification and climate change that threaten marine life and ecosystems.

The theme of this year's World Oceans Day is "Awakening the New Deep", which conveys the idea of exploring, understanding and protecting the vast and unknown realms of the oceans. This topic goes beyond the superficial understanding of the oceans and emphasizes the examination of the complexities of marine ecosystems, their conservation challenges and sustainable practices. By awakening to new depths on World Oceans Day, we can create a deeper commitment to ocean conservation, foster innovative solutions to ocean vulnerability, and create a global shift toward responsible stewardship and protection of this planet's aquatic treasure. ,‎ ‎I invite everyone to celebrate World Ocean Day by collectively embracing this issue and working together to protect our seas for future generations.‎.‎

Dr. Kamaluddin Ker, Head of the Sea of Oman Oceanography Center (Chabahar)

and a member of the scientific faculty of the research institute

Seas and oceans are one of the most important and incomparable environments for human life and other living beings on the planet. These water resources are rich in nutrients that are vital to meet the food needs of billions of people around the world. Oceans provide many energy sources, including wave energy and tidal energy, which are very valuable for meeting global energy needs. Also, the oceans act as one of the largest reservoirs of carbon dioxide in the world and play an important role in controlling the climate and absorbing greenhouse gases. Seas and oceans are very important for transportation, fishing, international trade, coastal tourism and marine industries and play a fundamental role in the economic growth and development of countries. Oceans are considered as the main source of precipitation and supply of fresh water for life on earth. Oceans and seas provide a rich and diverse environment of various vital species, which are very valuable for maintaining biodiversity and ecological stability. According to these points, it can be said that the protection of these water resources is very necessary for sustainable life and the health of the earth. ,

In order to create attention and awareness about the importance of protecting the world's oceans and water resources, June 8 has been introduced as World Oceans Day and a slogan is chosen for it every year. The slogan of the World Ocean Day for 2024 has also been announced as "Awakening New Depths". This slogan emphasizes the deep understanding of the oceans, its unknowns and the importance of protecting them for life on earth. Today, the pollution of the seas and oceans, as well as a crisis called ocean acidification, as environmental challenges in the world, cause the loss of many aquatic species in the world and affect biodiversity. Plastic wastes, petroleum materials, industrial chemicals, fertilizers, etc. are known as the main sources of water environment pollutants. The slogan of this year's World Oceans Day shows the need for in-depth study of oceans and seas in order to evaluate and investigate their current state, which can include continuous monitoring of coastal and offshore areas to assess environmental and biological changes in oceans and seas, and to examine the effects of human activities such as pollution, environmental degradation, and climate change on the state of oceans and seas. Of course, accurate prediction about biodiversity and the amount of pollution in the oceans and seas in the future is very complicated and they are influenced by many factors. However, some of the trends and factors that may affect the state of biodiversity and pollution in the oceans and seas in the future include: climate change, including the increase in temperature and acidification of the oceans, pollution of the seas, such as the increase in the use of plastic materials, chemicals and the entry of sewage into the seas and oceans, illegal and excessive fishing, which leads to the reduction of biodiversity and the destruction of the environment in the oceans and seas. Certainly, with the increase of these pollutants entering the seas and oceans, the situation of biodiversity and pollution of these water environments will deteriorate. But by taking protective measures, managing resources and reducing pollution, we can hope for an improvement in the condition of these vital environments.

The slogan of this year's World Oceans Day can be an inspiration and transformative for people and organizations related to environmental protection and oceans, and an incentive for more cooperation of international organizations and institutions related to environmental protection and oceans for a deeper assessment of the global state of the oceans and an all-out effort to improve its living conditions. It is time to work together to restore the health of the oceans. It seems that through sustainable methods, we can make it possible and work together to create a better world.

Dr. Ahmed Manbouhi, Head of the Caspian Sea Oceanography Center (Nowshahr)

and a member of the scientific faculty of the research institute

Seas and oceans cover two-thirds of the earth's surface as the basis of life. Also, the ocean They produce a large part of the oxygen used in human breathing and absorb a large share of carbon dioxide, provide food and feed, and regulate the ecosystem.‎ ‎Seas and oceans From an economic point of view, seas are important for countries that rely on tourism, fisheries and marine resources to generate income, and they play a role as an important and supportive part of international trade. The seas around the country are like the main gates of the world  and its modern and biological resources are vital for the country's economic activities. In addition to this basin They are also considered the frontline of the country's defense. However, both in the north and in the south, our knowledge of marine environments is still not significant and unfortunately, in some cases, our knowledge of this environment less than the recognition of countries in the region He is one of them. Hence the identification of the environment The seas around the country are of fundamental importance both for the exploitation of its resources and for the biological sustainability and defense of this basin.

Marine knowledge and knowledge of sea ecosystems as well as the functioning of its constituent parts and knowledge of the interrelationships of these components will undoubtedly help us in more correct and economic exploitation. It will help more than the seas. Oceanographic information and observations are needed for oceanographic studies and a better identification of the seas around the Islamic Republic of Iran due to its geographical, political and economic activities. Unfortunately, human pressures include interest Unconventional capture of seas and oceans illegal fishing, unsustainable aquaculture activities, marine pollution, habitat destruction, the introduction of alien species, climate change and ocean acidification A lot of damage to the ocean have brought fruits and seas of the world‎.‎‏ ‏

Therefore, considering that all creatures on the planet have the right to live in a healthy environment, a day was named after the World Oceans and Seas Day. For the first time in 1992, the need to pay attention and importance to the seas and oceans was discussed at the global level and finally to show the importance of this issue, in 2008‎ ‎World Ocean Day was named and June 8 was set as this day. In fact, seas and oceans An important part of human life have formed throughout history, that is why the existence of a world day named after it is necessary and necessary to inform people about the dangers that the ocean threats, to be aware‎.‎

Considering the importance of the Caspian Sea as the largest inland water area in the world, the existence of 3 important and active ports in its southern area, which have extensive exchanges with the surrounding countries and sometimes beyond the region and also the wide swathes along the southern shores of the Caspian Sea, therefore Mazandaran Oceanography and Atmospheric Sciences Research and Technology Station (Nowshahr) organizes various programs on the occasion of World Seas and Oceans Day in the form of meetings and specialized workshops in cooperation with the National Research Institute of Oceanography and Atmospheric Sciences and other marine organizations with the presence of local experts in virtual form, including the workshop entitled "Climate change in the Caspian Sea with an emphasis on the effect of Increasing water surface temperature on Azadzi nematodes" by Dr. Mehrshad Taheri and two lectures titled "Operational Oceanography" by Dr. Jafar Azizpour and "Hamzad Digital Ocean" Ha" by Dr. Ehsan Rast Goftar. In addition, the Caspian Sea coast cleaning program is carried out by the researchers of Mazandaran Oceanographic and Atmospheric Research and Technology Station, as well as teaching the children of the station employees.‎.‎
