Director of UNESCO Tehran office visited "Persian Gulf Explorer"

The director of the UNESCO office in Tehran visited the research vessel "Persian Gulf Explorer" on Wednesday, 24 February 1403.

According to the public relations report of the National Institute of Oceanography and Atmospheric Sciences, in this visit with the presence of Mr. Ying EsrangIeng SrongDirector of the UNESCO office in Tehran, Dr. Morteza Tavakoli, head of the research center, Dr. Saeed Najafi, vice president of technology, and Dr. Samad Hamzaei, head of the Hormozgan Research Station, conducted the research and international activities of the research center and the West Asia Regional Oceanographic Training-Research Center, and then the facilities and equipment of the Persian Gulf research probe to conduct research and marine field operations were introduced.

Tavakoli, during the visit of the director of the UNESCO Tehran office to the floating research laboratories, said: The Persian Gulf probe is used to collect various marine data to carry out research projects and macro-plans of the research institute and marine monitoring programs.

Mr. Esrang, while being pleased to visit the facilities and learn about the marine research activities of the institute, stated that marine research activities are important scientific activities and declared his readiness to support the expansion of international cooperation in this field.

The National Research Institute of Oceanography and Atmospheric Sciences, with the aim of promoting oceanographic science and research in the country and the region, presented the plan for the establishment of a regional center for oceanography in West Asia to the National Commission of UNESCO in 2010 and this plan was submitted to the Intergovernmental Commission of Oceanography of UNESCO (IOC) was presented. The agreement of this center was signed in 2015 between the Minister of Science, Research and Technology of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Director General of UNESCO. This regional center, as the first type II UNESCO center in the field of oceanography in the world, has so far held many scientific activities, including holding specialized training courses and scientific conferences in the field of oceanography in the region.

It should be mentioned that during this visit, a meeting was held with Dr. Ashuri Taziani, Governor of Hormozgan, at the office of the Arvand Bandar Abbas People's Organization, during which points regarding the joint phase of cooperation were discussed.
