The "ship autopilot navigation" device for the research vessel of the Persian Gulf probe was developed by the researcher of the National Research Institute of Oceanography and Atmospheric Sciences.

Dr. Saeed Najafi, the manufacturer of this device, said: One of the main navigation equipment in vessels is the autopilot system.Auto Pilot) which is responsible for maintaining the floating heading angle through automatic rudder control. Considering the sanctions issues, we decided that this technology should be built inside the country, so after scientific and specialized studies, this indigenous system was finally built and operated on the "Persian Gulf Explorer" float.

He said about the necessity of this device: In missions where it is necessary for the vessel to move in a straight path for a long time, the existence of the autopilot system is very important in order to prevent the human errors of the helmsman. This issue is doubly necessary for research ships that must move in a straight path mainly for monitoring the seabed and coasts, hydrography and oceanographic missions. 

A member of the scientific faculty of the research institute, the fields of activity of this system TRL 9  has received from the Iranian Technology Assessment System (SAFA), he stated the technologies of marine industries and electronic and computer hardware.

It should be mentioned that earlier this system was supplied from abroad, and by localizing this technology, the mass production of this product will undoubtedly save money and prevent foreign exchange.
