Publication of the international scientific collection about the oceanographic and ecological features of the Persian Gulf

The special issue of the prestigious international journal *Deep-Sea Research Part II* focusing on "Oceanological and Ecological Features of the Persian Gulf" was recently published; A number that according to experts can be one of the most reliable and comprehensive global scientific collections about this strategic area. 

This special issue, which is now available on the official website of the publisher-Al-Zoir, was prepared and published by the initiative and follow-up of *Dr. Maryam Ghaemi*, a member of the scientific faculty of the National Research Institute of Oceanography and Atmospheric Sciences, as the editor-in-chief of this issue. 

 Qaemi: The publication of this collection is an important step for the scientific visibility of the Persian Gulf.

Emphasizing the importance of publishing this collection, Dr. Ghaemi said:
"For the first time, a prestigious international journal has dedicated an independent and specialized collection completely to the Persian Gulf, and now with the final publication of the articles, this issue is seen more prominently at the global level than ever."

He added:
"This special issue is the result of the extensive collaboration of researchers from different countries and can be an important reference for policy making, marine environment management and the development of future research in the Persian Gulf."

 * Sending 43 articles from 12 countries; 21 articles accepted*

Dr. Qaemi, who is also the Vice-Chairman of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO (IOCINDIO), added: During the publication of this series, *43 articles* were received from researchers of different countries, including Iran, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, India, America, Germany, Norway, Taiwan and South Africa, and after strict judging, *21 articles* were accepted for publication. The acceptance rate of articles is reported to be about *49%*. 

 *The prominent role of Iran*

In this special issue, researchers and scientific institutions of Iran - including the National Research Institute of Oceanography and Atmospheric Sciences, Hormozgan University, Shahid Beheshti University, Environmental Protection Organization and several major universities of the country - have had a prominent presence. According to those involved, Iran has been one of the most influential countries in terms of the amount of scientific participation and cooperation network in the Persian Gulf issue.

This collection covers topics such as biodiversity, sensitive ecosystems (corals and mangroves), marine pollution, climate change, biogeochemical processes, and modeling related to fisheries and oceanography; Fields that require more attention and study in the Persian Gulf from the perspective of researchers. 

 *Increasing global attention to Persian Gulf studies*

Based on initial assessments, some of the articles in this special issue have already been cited and it is expected that the number of references will increase in the coming years due to the specialized nature of the subject. 

In addition to creating a reliable scientific reference for researchers, this collection is an effective step in strengthening regional scientific diplomacy and improving the position of Iranian research in the global oceanographic network.
