"Protecting the biodiversity of the Persian Gulf and the Sea of ​​Oman" meeting; Emphasis on scientific, managerial and social synergy

On the occasion of the research week, the specialized meeting "Protecting the biodiversity of the Persian Gulf and the Sea of ​​Oman; "Challenges and solutions" was held on December 25, 1404 in person and virtually at the oceanographic center of Bushehr province; The meeting, which brought together managers, researchers, environmental activists and representatives of the young generation, emphasized the need for coordinated action to protect valuable marine ecosystems in the south of the country.

In this meeting, the issue of biodiversity protection was discussed not only as a scientific concern, but also as a national and interdepartmental issue. Dr. Muradzadeh, Director General of Environmental Protection of Bushehr province, emphasized the role of policy and integrated management in the effective protection of marine ecosystems, referring to marine protected areas under the management of this department.

One of the prominent parts of this meeting was the active participation of the elite students of Bushehr province; Where Amir Ali and Amirreza Behzadi presented their environmental activities, introduced the challenges of protecting Persian Gulf sharks and highlighted the role of the future generation in protecting the marine environment.

In the following, Dr. Yaser Fatemi, head of Bushehr Oceanographic Center, focused on the mangrove forests, described the human and natural threats of this sensitive ecosystem and examined the scientific and management solutions to protect them. Also, Dr. Majid Askari, a member of the faculty of Shahid Bahonar University of Kerman, spoke about the situation of sea turtles in Iran and the challenges of protecting these valuable species.

The issue of non-native species as one of the emerging threats to marine ecosystems was analyzed by Dr. Hamza Ghaffari, a member of the National Research Institute of Oceanography and Atmospheric Sciences. In the final part of the meeting, Mohsen Rezaei from the University of Manchester, England and the CEO of Qeshm Environmental Protection Institute, focused on Iranian marine mammals, emphasized the need to strengthen research, education and social participation in the protection of these species.

Dr. Yaser Fatemi, the secretary of the meeting, stated that the purpose of holding this program is to create a platform for dialogue and synergy between activists and experts in the field of marine environment and emphasized the need to continue such meetings at the national level, especially in Bushehr province. In this regard, Dr. Muradzadeh, while announcing his readiness to expand cooperation with the National Research Institute of Oceanography and Atmospheric Sciences, welcomed the proposal to hold the first national conference on the protection of the biodiversity of the Persian Gulf and the Sea of ​​Oman in Bushehr province.
