Dr. Saeed Najafi, in an interview with Mana reporter, emphasized that one of the most important missions of the National Research Institute of Oceanography and Atmospheric Sciences is the national marine monitoring of Iran, and stated: Accordingly, the long-term scientific monitoring of the coasts and offshore areas of Iran by collecting physical, chemical and biological data for managing ecosystems and planning the sustainable development of the sea is on the agenda of this research institute.

The Vice President of Technology of the National Research Institute of Oceanography and Atmospheric Sciences, pointing out that the extent of monitoring is carried out on the coasts and offshore of the Persian Gulf, the Oman Sea and the Caspian Sea, added: These monitoring are carried out by various methods, including specialized sea patrols with field sampling, a network of coastal and offshore stations, data validation and long-term monitoring, using drone technology to collect environmental data and satellite remote sensing.

According to him, the parameters of the mentioned monitoring include physical and chemical, ecosystem and biogeochemical, biological and ecological of marine mammals, crustaceans, corals and aquatic life as well as types of pollution including persistent organic pollutants and toxins.

Stating that the results of these monitoring will play an important role in sea-oriented development, Dr. Najafi stated: the use of data can play an effective role in decision-making and policy-making for sustainable marine development, management and protection of coastal and marine ecosystems, location-based marine planning and monitoring of climate change and the effects of global carbon dioxide emissions.
