The 1st INIOAS Training Course on Ocean Remote Sensing, 2023

Satellite remote sensing techniques benefit oceanographers working on biological and physical processes of the oceans and seas. Specialized training is needed to easily and effectively use remotely sensed data sets and products. Even people who intend to begin research careers specifically interested in satellite remote sensing need training in ocean remote sensing methods. In response to these broad needs, an intensive training course is planned for oceanographers who need satellite remote sensing techniques. This course is highly methods-oriented. The goal of the course is to teach participants the basic skills needed to work independently to acquire, analyze and visualize data sets derived from a variety of satellite sensors. Strong emphasis is given to ocean color, Sea Surface Temperature, wind waves, currents, and coastal water quality monitoring remote sensing. The lectures cover the fundamentals of bio-optics, pigment algorithms, primary production algorithms, and to a lesser extent, the underlying physical principles leading to the measurement of sea surface temperature, ocean wind speed, and ocean topography.
