Introduction

Our planet is a system organized of two types of fluid, Atmosphere and Oceans that are interacting with each other. Hence, Understanding the relationship between these two types of fluid can enhance our knowledge regarding to current climate of the world and its changes in future. So, this reveals the importance of the Atmospheric-Oceanic Sciences.

In this field, there are a large variety of phenomena to study. The weather systems originated from Atlantic Ocean, Indian Ocean, Mediterranean Sea, Black sea, and Red sea, seriously affect Iran (with 2700 km of shorelines and complex topography). Furthermore, teleconnection indices, due to interaction between Atmosphere and Oceans, such as ENSO phases, could have impacts on Iran's climate.

Therefore, achieving a comprehensive Atmospheric-Oceanic model as a complex set of coupled fluid dynamics is required, to reduce some risks (Environmental, Marine, Atmospheric, etc.) due to the generated errors in forecasts. In order to make progress in this area, it is necessary to investigate the Atmospheric-Oceanic sciences. Consequently, Atmospheric Sciences Research Center was established in April, 2013 in the Iranian National Institute for Oceanography and Atmospheric Science. For research purposes, the Atmospheric Sciences Research Center is focused on three research group:

 ►Department of the Air-Sea phenomena

Determining the wind field in Iranian seas; Modeling of Air-Sea phenomena (wind-driven waves, storm surge, sea-breeze and land breeze winds, thunderstorms and effective squalls, on Iran's coasts and seas), Correction and localization of available models (current and wind-driven waves models), and providing basic and specialized training courses.

 ►Department of Climatology

Investigating seasonal and climate events effective on Iran; Identifying and reviewing some meteorological phenomena affecting the coastal and marine areas of Iran; Studying the present climate prediction models on a global scale and mesoscale, and adapting them; Investigating Climate ‍Change and climate of the marine and coastal environment using the adapted models; Studying of paleoclimate change; and providing basic and specialized training courses.

 ►Department of Atmospheric Prediction

Reviewing present large-scale Atmospheric prediction models in order to measure and adapt them; Designing mesoscale Prediction models for Atmosphere and Ocean; Designing statistic Prognostic models; Issuing improved Atmospheric-Oceanic forecasts for the Atmospheric-Oceanic hazards center, and providing basic and specialized training courses.
